Jakarta (ANTARA) – Pelita Jaya Jakarta merekrut pelatih fisik dan kebugaran dari Australia, Sean Connoly, guna membantu tim menghadapi Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) 2026.

"Saya sangat senang mengumumkan bahwa saya akan memulai menjadi pelatih fisik dan kebugaran di Pelita Jaya Jakarta," kata Connoly dalam akun Instagram pribadinya, Selasa.

Klub berharap pelatih itu mampu meningkatkan kebugaran fisik dan kesiapan pemain Pelita Jaya dalam menghadapi jadwal padat kompetisi.

"Saya sangat bersemangat untuk bergabung dan membantu tim ke depannya," ujar dia.

Sean Connoly berpengalaman dalam pengembangan fisik atlet bola basket yang dipercaya memberikan kontribusi signifikan bagi skuad Pelita Jaya.

Sejak 2008 dia menangani klub-klub elite seperti Perth Wildcats (NBL), Seattle Storm (WNBA), hingga Australia Opals yang meraih medali perunggu Olimpiade 2024.

Connolly dikenal spesialis pengembangan fisik dan nutrisi olahraga dan membina lebih dari 2 ribu atlet profesional dan semiprofesional.

Sejumlah pemain yang ditanganinya sukses menembus kompetisi internasional, termasuk WNBA, NBL, dan WNBL.

Kehadirannya di Pelita Jaya diharapkan memberi dorongan besar pada aspek kebugaran pemain agar mampu bersaing di level tertinggi kompetisi.

Tapi klub belum memberikan pengumuman tentang peran dia, apakah akan menggantikan Gary Malhotra, sebagai pelatih fisik dan kebugaran saat ini atau bekerja sama dalam struktur kepelatihan tim.

Perekrutan pelatih asing itu mencerminkan keseriusan Pelita Jaya dalam menjaga kualitas performa tim.

Pelita Jaya tengah mempersiapkan diri untuk menjadi salah satu tim papan atas IBL.

Mereka ingin merebut kembali gelar juara yang diambil oleh Dewa United Banten pada 2025.
